Questions? call DDS: When teeth are removed, it's normal to have some empty space in the position where the teeth were (tooth socket). It takes time for the surrounding tissue to fill in that space. The only exception is when your teeth were completely impacted and underneath the gum. In that case, the tissue is reflected, the teeth removed and the gums sutured back covering the area.

Yes, it may be: After having wisdom teeth removed and sutures placed, some patients may still have small holes in the gum tissue over the extraction sites. Primary or complete closure may depend upon how much if any of the tooth was visible through the gum tissue, flap design, location and number of sutures placed.
