A welt....: The stinger will introduce the scorpion's venom into he skin: 1. Venom: activates autonomic peripheral and central nerves depending on concentration (# of stings) leading to irritability, fever, vomiting, profuse salivation, tremor, and convulsion. 2. The immune system activates, causing inflammation which, in itself, can cause damage manifested by swelling, redness, warmth, and pain.

Like a bee sting: Most scorpion stings cause only local pain , redness and swelling. More severe systemic or allergic reactions can occur but are very rare. If there is any remnant of a stinger in the wound, it should be removed. Best to scrape a credit card across the wound to catch and pull out a stinger - avoid tweezers, which can push venom from the remnant into the wound. Antibiotics usually not needed.

Depends: This all depends on the species or scorpion, severity of the sting, health of the patient, and age of the patient.
