Weakness: Weakness of half of the face is the classic symptom of bell palsy. This includes slowness of blinking, decreased expression (such as "smiling" or "growling"), or drooling, all on one side of the face. Depending on the location of the palsy, too-loud noises and lack of taste sensation on the same side may result.

Facial weakness: Bells palsy refers only to weakness or paralysis of the muscles of the face. The exact cause is unknown but it may be due to a viral infection in the facial nerve.
