Need expert opinions. how often is bells palsy a symptom of lyme disease?

6 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Very rarely: Idiopathic (no cause known) bell's palsy is the presentation seen in the vast majority of patients presenting with bell's palsy. Bell's palsy caused by lyme disease is only a small fraction of all bell's palsy and should only be attributed to lyme disease in documented cases. People presenting with bell's palsy w/out other signs suggestive of lyme disease or endemic areas, aren't to be tested 4 it.

Bell's Palsy: The cause of bell's palsy is not clear. Most cases are thought to be caused by the herpes virus that causes cold sores.
