What might cause a shiny coating and small yellow flakes to appear on hands randomly? derm appt not for a couple weeks. could allergies cause this?

Skin: Flakey skin on the hands may represent hand eczema, fungus , dry skin, or psoriasis to name a few. If frequent moisturizing is not helping , see a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment.

Eczema, contact: Dermatitis, thyroid / liver condition etc may cause this. Let your dermatologist give u an accurate diagnosis. Take care!
