Can occur : About 80-90% of the us population has positive titers for hsv1, the virus resonsible for herpes simplex labialis on the lips. Hsv2 is usually the virus associates with genital herpes and is found in about 17% of the population. Hsv1 can infect the genital area, primarily transfered via oral sex. In some studies, hsv1 is associated with approximately 40% of all genital herpes infections.
