I'm 18, addiction won't get me for years, so what's the big deal about having some fun?

Hmm: Many people that have serious addictions will say it started out as fun as well, obviously there is a reason people use these substances in the first place and "fun" is definitly one of them. I suspect if most addicts could do it over again they would say "not worth it". You may not get addicted this is true, but by the tone of your question, it is also possible that you already are. Try sober fun.

If you kiss a girl, can you get meningococcal?

Pediatrics 46 years experience
If she carries it: Meningococcal germs are carried in the oral secretions of those who are unaffected carriers or those who will later show signs of the disease. The germ can live outside the body for a while on objects & pass from object to fingers to nose to infect the next person. Clusters of cases often occurred in military recruit centers or college dorms prior to wide vaccine use.

Is it possible for a young little girl who was normal in social situations before to suddenly become very withdrawn?
2 doctor answers • 5 doctors weighed in
Pediatrics 13 years experience
Yes: This could happen if she encountered a frightful social situation for her and now she is nervous in similar situations. Talk with her and find out if she is anxious or scared about anything in particular. Try to avoid loud large groups at first and instead bring to her small gatherings of people she knows and is comfortable around. As she warms up slowly start introducing her to bigger groups.

Five years: Generally puberty lasts about five years. The very first signs such as underarm hair or body odor start to develop in elementary school or junior high. Then the growth spurt starts. By the time a girl gets her period she is closer to then end of puberty but may continue to grow for a year more.
