Painful wet feet: The name trench foot was given to soldiers who never removed their boots, during world war i, and so they had poor foot hygiene and developed painful infections of the feet. U.S. Soldiers in vietnam also had problems with foot infections because of wet feet that were not washed and dried often enough. Certain germs give a foul smell to the feet. The term trench foot is not used much anymore.
