Many possibilities: There are many possibilities for upper back pain. Most common would be a muscle, skeletal, or nerve condition. Gallstones might cause upper back discomfort, but there would also be associated multiple other symptoms first, such as upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatty food intolerance, etc. Need an ultrasound to see if there are gallstones.
