Consider ESI: Call you doc and see if you can get an epidural steroid injection. This can stifle the symptoms until surgery and minimize your need for nsaids (which you cannot take due to bleeding complications prior to surgery) and narcotics. Ice/heat fine, but don't use rubs or patches as they may cause skin reaction necessitating surgery to be canceled.
