Get medical eval: The mouth is important of your body and a general medical condition can also show up in your mouth. Get it checked out by your physician if your dentist doesn't feel it is coming from your gums.

First See a Dentist: See a different dentist for a thorough evaluation. If the dentist determines the problem to be dental in origin, they may refer you to a periodontist (if it is a gum infection), an endodontist (if it is a tooth nerve requiring root canal treatment) or an oral surgeon (if biopsy or tooth extraction or other surgery necessary), or they will refer you to a physician (for medical evaluation).
