Suspected only: Colonoscopy can show a mass that is very suspicious for cancer, but can't be diagnosed until the cells are looked at under the microscope after a biopsy or removal.

Colon evaluation: Most common evaluation now is colonoscopy, at which time a small biopsy may be taken. Other options include barium enema and computed tomography (ct scan).
