Triggers periods: Progesterone intake can be used to trigger a menstrual cycle in women who do not have regular menstrual cycles. It helps to regulate menstrual cycles. It does not get rid of ovarian cysts. As you have learned from the other doctors who have answered your questions 5-8 mm are not a concerning size for an ovarian cyst.

Suppression: Orgamed is medroxyprogesterone. This does not treat ovarian cysts that have already formed, but may prevent additional cysts from forming. It does this by suppressing the lh surge and therefore prevents ovulation. Also, if the "cysts" are 5-8mm in size then they are usually classifies as follicles, rather than cysts, and the recruitment of these follicles may not be prevented by orgamed alone.

Progesterone: Progesterone and/or estrogen, e.g. Birth control pills, if they do help to prevent ovarian cyst-formation would do so by virtue of prevention population. Any exogenous female-hormone brings about less production internally -- so effectively the ovary is somewhat dormant when, for instance, birth control pill is ingested, because those ingredients are the normal product of the ovaries.
