Sociopathy: There is an excellent book by dr martha stout, phd called "the psychopath next door" which gives useful information on detecting it, understanding, preventing damage from these individuals. Psychiatric treatments have proved no effect on them, and only correctional approaches have been used so far. It is an interesting field to research. Check "the mask of sanity" for more information.

Antisocial: The modern clinical term for sociopathy is antisocial personality disorder. The hallmark of this disorder is the person seems to have no conscience, or sense of morality, or right or wrong. This person cannot empathize with others, is opportunistic, predatory, and often thrill seeking. An example of this would be Charles Manson. These people are to be avoided.
