A member asked:

Is kava dangerous to your health? if so, is there a certain amount of consumption that should be avoided (eg is once a week ok)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Kava-kava: Kava is consumed through polynesia, including hawaii, vanuatu, melanesia and some parts of micronesia. It is sedating and is used in several forms to relax without disrupting mental clarity. Active ingredients are called kavalactones. One study showed it likely to be more effective than placebo at treating anxiety. Low doses are safe.
