Yes, with caution: Kava has been safely used for centuries in Fiji and appears to be effective for anxiety, insomnia and muscle tension. There is concern about it causing liver damage in some people but this is rather rare and reversible and occurs mostly in heavy drinkers or those taking other drugs that cause liver damage. To be safe you can have your liver enzymes monitored but it is generally safe. See comment:
