Many possibilities: Breathing requires adequate strength in the breathing muscles, open airways & a brain that sends messages to define the proper rate & depth. Most kids with issues of something blocking the airways & snoring is a sign of this. Kids 6-8 normally have a lot of tonsil/adenoidal mass & some snore, but this fades as the kid gets older. If 3-6 & snoring a lot , there is risk of sleep apnea & rx needed.

Soft palate: Snoring is usually vibration of the soft palate. Trouble breathing could be due to obstruction at the soft palate, the base of the tongue, lower down in the trachea, higher up at the back of the nasal airway, due to growths, enlarged tonsils and adenoids or even due to lack of stimulation to breathe from the brain ( central obstruction). See a sleep specialist for proper evaluation.
