If it's herpes....: ...Then it's not a canker sore. Canker sores are form multiple or indeterminate causes. Herpes sores are caused by herpes. There is an over the counter medicine called abreva that helps a bit. Lysine is good, and it's available in a lot of health food stores.

Not the same: Cankers (aphthae) are not herpes. Usually they heal quickly ; require no med. Primary herpes is the very first herpes infection ; shows a mouthful of sores. Most people skip this stage, reasons unknown. The only effective treatment for herpes is a prescription pill. See a dermatologist if you are in distress.

I usually get cold sores on the outside of my mouth. Usual clustered blister and they crust and fall off until healed. Only recently I'm getting lots of gum& throat canker sores. I never had herpes there.Is it true canker sores can be herpes simplex?
