A 33-year-old member asked:

could you give some one herpes simplex 1 if you don't have a cold sore/fever blister?

Maybe: The herpes family of viruses are very common. Some people will get outbreaks, others who are exposed may never have an outbreak, and only with a blood test will find out they were ever exposed. For those who have outbreaks, they can release the virus before a sore is present, either oral or genital sores.

What should I do if my babys had a fever for five days, and tylenol (acetaminophen) isnt making it better?

Call your doctor: When your baby has had fever for more than 3-5 days that does not seem to be resolving, they need to be examined to determine if the cause is serious and what treatment is required. Don't forget that a baby can be sick without a fever, and as a parent, you know your child best. Fever is just a symptom, and by itself is not harmful and is part of the bodies natural immune response to illness.
A member asked:

Will my baby breastfeed less due to the blisters in his throat?

Dr. Lisa Roberts
Pediatrics 23 years experience
Yes: If your baby has a throat infection, it may cause him to be less interested in drinking milk. If he has already been examined and is not thought to have anything more serious, a dose of Acetaminophen as recommended by your doctor may help to alleviate the pain. Sometimes feeding smaller, but more frequent amounts may be better to give your baby a break, but to maintain hydration.

Mouth breathing: You may breath through your mouth while you sleep, which dries out your mouth and throat. With a dry mouth, certain bacteria can proliferate which causes an odor. Try brushing your tongue as well as your teeth, and when you use mouth rinse, gargle it into the back of your throat as well.
