Get evaluated: I would recommend evaluation by a podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon. Other conditions, such as arthritis, osteochondral lesions and ligament tears, can have similar symptoms as ankle sprains. A thourough evaluation is needed to see why you aren't improving.

Sprained ankle: Each ankle sprain can vary depending on location and severity. Usually, if pain over 4 months, seeing your pcp for a referral to a specialist is recommended. Try rest, icing, compression with ankle wrap or brace, and elevation first. Anti-inflammatory meds recommended. If after 4 months of therapy, no resolution there may be more severe injury.
