Need more info: Ritalin (methylphenidate) 10 mgs. Every 4 hours (assuming during day time hours only) may not be a high dose for an adult, but may be high for a small child. More information is needed to give an accurate answer. Also need to know total dose in 24 hours.

Not necessarily: 60 mg is max but usually given in am so as not to interfere with sleep.

Ritalin (methylphenidate): This applies to regular release ritalin (methylphenidate). Slow release (ritalin (methylphenidate)-la) should not be dosed more than twice a day, one in morning & another @2P.M. If needed.
