Ritalin (methylphenidate): Ritalin (methylphenidate) does not stunt puberty. One of the major side effects is appetite suppression(curbs appetite). If a person in any situation is not eating enough growth will be slowed. Children who take Ritalin (methylphenidate) or any adhd medication should be monitored regularly by their doctor. Encouraging kids to eat before the medicine kicks in and when it wears off is important.

No: Ritalin (methylphenidate) does not stunt puberty. It can cause appetite depression but this passes in the afternoon or early evening. Long term studies show that the only lasting side effect of stimulant medications is an ultimate decrease in adult height if not monitored correctly. This rarely happens and almost never if you have a competent physician and you keep all of your appointments. Good luck!
