Not often: The lung itself does not feel pain in the usual sense of the word. Pain from lung cancer is caused by irritation of the pleura or lining of the chest cavity or invasion of some other surrounding structure by the lung cancer. In those cases, the lung cancer would be more advanced. Usually "lung pain" is actually pleurisy or irritation of the pleura and is usually from inflammation or infection.

Otherwise: Other way around! most lung cancers do not cause pain at all. Some do have pain depending on pneumonia, rib or chest wall, extension, or metastatic issues. Generally asymptomatic early on, then cough, bloody cough, shortness of breath.
