A member asked:

Can you please tell me about health consequences of not getting enough sleep?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Accidents and weight: The biggest risk is falling asleep at the wheel. It also makes you gain weight because the hormones produced during sleep suppress appetite. Plus, the body makes more steroid hormones keep a tired body awake, and that increases appetite. Rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, headaches, arthritis, and even breast cancer have been linked with not getting enough sleep.
