Two forms: There are 2 TB tests - PPD shot (given in forearm & swelling at that site is measured after 48-72 hours) and a newer blood test (quantiferon) that tests for immune response in blood cells. Both tests assess the response of t lymphocytes to several proteins that are present in the TB bug. Positive test would only mean that you have been exposed to TB bug. More tests are needed for active infection.
