A member asked:

What sort of disorder is dystonia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Abnormal contraction: Dystonia is often a somewhat generic term for abnormal muscle contraction. True dystonia is thought to be abnormal muscle contractions due to a problem in the spinal cord or brain. Sometimes the exact nature of the problem in the spinal cord or brain cannot be diagnosed. Mri is often used to try to help diagnose this. Any muscle in the body can develop this problem.
