Gallbladder Disease: Chronic cholecystitis is synonymous with biliary colic: it is transient obstruction of the gallbladder by gallstones causing (severe) right-upper abdominal pain. Acute cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder due to persistent obstruction, sometimes requiring urgent surgery for rx.
