Gallbladder infect'n: Cholecystitis is a something that occurs when the gallbladder becomes infected, usually by bacteria. This can occur usually when the gallbladder is unable to drain properly, such as when it is blocked by a stone.

Gallbladder Disease: Chronic cholecystitis is synonymous with biliary colic: it is transient obstruction of the gallbladder by gallstones causing (severe) right-upper abdominal pain. Acute cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder due to persistent obstruction, sometimes requiring urgent surgery for rx.
