The diagnosis is typically based on radiologic, ultrasound, or nuclear medicine criteria--these studies typically ordered in response to symptoms. Untreated cholecystitis may resolve but may progress. If the latter, a semi-elective surgery may become an emergency one. Talk to your doctor. Gallbladder surgeries are so common & routine now-a-days.
