A member asked:

Tell me the survival rate for people who have cirrhosis of liver, also need to have their gallbladder removed?

Acceptable: There's no contraindication to lap chole in cirrhotics, unless they are in the advanced child's c class, where it should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. We try our best to manage these patients with percutaneous drainage as opposed to surgery. Mortality in child's a and b patients is 0-4%, but conversion to open procedure is about 6%. Good luck.

Variable course: The survival rate depends on a number of factors, including the cause of cirrhosis; is the cause persisting, what treatment is being administered, how compliant is the person with the treatment. Gall bladder removal is not likely to affect the course of cirrhosis. See this site for more info. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/cirrhosis-liver.
