A member asked:

What is the mechanism by which oral steroids work for asthma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Reduce inflammation: Steroids act as an anti inflammatory agent. When taken orally, they ultimately reach the lung and reduce the inflammatory process that results in bronchial constriction. Inhaled steroids are preferred in that they predominantly work in the lung and spare the rest of the body.
