Inflammation also: Besides injuries people can have inflamation in their muscles called myositis. This can occur in connective tissue diseases like poly or dermatomyositis. Some of the statin drugs that treat high cholesterol can have muscle problems called "statin myopathy", but a serious type of muscle inflammation called rhabdomyolysis can occur and cause muscle swelling. This can occur with others.
