can you recommend a good cure for feeling depressed about being autistic?

Therapist : The questions suggests an adult with autism who is depressed about the diagnosis. If a therapist, who is familiar with this diagnosis, is not involved it is time to start. They can help work through the negative feelings and come to terms with diagnosis. They can also help you identify areas of increased skill which can be maximized. Medications, if needed, can be prescribed by physician.
Dr. Robert GalatzerLevy
Child Psychiatry 50 years experience
Address autism sympt: If the depression is really about being autistic discovering that you can do something about many of the symptoms of autism would help. Learning how to interact with people, finding work that builds on you capacities, discovering that there are many autistic people with full lives can help. (see temple grandon's book different . . .Not less for lots of ideas.).
Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
This is very good advice. Especially, high-functioning autism has tremendous plusses. You can learn how to read people and build social skills to enjoy human company -- and you have an inner world of ideas that'll keep you happy and is closed to most other folks. Cherish who you are, and be strong.

Yes: It is possible. Many of the medications used to treat pregnancy have a rare but serious side effect in the baby called primary pulmonary hypertension and increased neonatal jitteriness. If being off your meds means your depression worsens and you are not eating properly that could affect the baby's growth.
Dr. Armand Braun
Psychiatry 39 years experience
There is some evidence (besides those mentioned) that experiencing significant depression during pregnancy may biologically set up hard wiring in the fetus to experience greater depression and anxiety in their lives. Also if the mothers depression continues into the infants first 1 year of life that in itself can have negative hard wiring on the infant- depression and anxiety.

Is cfs related to depression?

2 doctor answers9 doctors weighed in
Dr. Donald Hazlett
Psychiatry 54 years experience
80% of CFS patients: Meet criteria for major depression. Cfs (chronic fatigue syndrome) patients do not have epstein-barr virus or any other viruses for that matter that can be found to clearly cause chronic fatigue syndrome. Other medical problems that can cause fatigue have to be looked for. Fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome and temporomandibular joint disease are associated disorders but not causes for cfs.

Real: Fibromyalgia is not depression. However living with chronic pain can cause feelings of anxiety and depression, which can worsen the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Probably Not Much: To my knowledge, these are expressions for the same condition. Aspergers is now part of what is called the autistic spectrum, a range of conditions sharing characteristic of autism, but with different levels of severity.
A 30-year-old member asked:

Can a specific type vitamin help with depression?

1 doctor answer6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Pamela Pappas
Psychiatry 42 years experience
Certain vitamins: Depression first of all needs a good evaluation by an experienced psychiatrist or psychologist. Sometimes psychotherapy alone can help; sometimes antidepressants are needed also. Low vitamin d levels have some correlation with depression. Some data shows that low B12 and folate can accompany depression too. While replenishing these nutrients may not cure depression by themselves, they may help.
