Depression Rx start: Feelings of being "down" or depressed are common after major life stressors. The "by the book" answer is that if you have 5 out of 9 diagnostic symptoms of depression present after two weeks, you "qualify" for the diagnosis. These 9 sxs are available online. The clinical reality is that if you are having extreme sxs, medication might be very helpful. Do not neglect talk therapy as well.

Depression: Not an easy task u are having to deal with. Assessment by a mental health professional will help determine whether u can benefit from psychotherapy or whether u need referral for medication evaluation by a psychiatrist.

Symptom severity: Reaction to stressful events begin to resolve, depression does not, so get evaluated. Symptom severity and duration guides approach. Medication is only a part of treatment. Self-care and avoiding isolation are very important. Include: parent/family ASD support and education networks, family counseling/coaching with behavioral focus, moderate daily exercise at least 30 min, daily relaxation?
