A member asked:

Can a pregnant woman contract fifth disease if she's already had it recently?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely to happen: Fifth disease is caused by a virus that will confer lifetime immunity with the first infection. You don't get it a second time like you might with a bacteria like strep throat. Most women have this in childhood but those who get it for the first time during pregnancy may have major problems.
