A member asked:

Will doctors always do a complete blood work screen before surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: If the patient is young and free of chronic disease, it may not be necessary to perform blood work, even for a general anesthesia. If a patient is over 40 or has other health issues, it's important to verify that blood electrolytes and hemoglobin are normal. It comes down to your surgeon and anesthesiologist. Good luck.
