Electrolytes: Gatorade & water will both hydrate you the same. However, when you exercise, you also lose electrolytes which are important for helping your body work properly. Gatorade has electrolytes in it to replace those you lost.

Gatorade not great: Yes gatorade has electrolytes but also a ton of sugar which can prevent people from losing weight and optimizing performance. I still recommend it for my endurance athletes but my weekend warriors who are exercising less than 1 hour or less, stick with water. If you feel you need to replacement things add 3 tbsp lemon juice and 1-2tsp himalayan salt. Way healthier.

It isn't: Gatorade does not hydrate you better than water. Gatorade contains a lot of salt and sugar that most people absolutely don't need when exercising. It's designed for marathoners, but unfortunately marketed to everyone. Because a commercial (or a buddy, or a coach) tells you it's good does not make it so.

Diarrhea: It does however work well for diarrhea. Gatorade contains glucose which is a single molecule sugar as opposed to sucrose. This is easier for irritated small bowel cells to use for energy.
