Varies: Metformin is a great drug with common side effects being GI symptoms: gas, diarrhea, abdominal cramping...Your body will adapt in a few weeks and most people tolerate the med fine without subsequent problems. The extended release version is better tolerated and Glumetza is very well tolerated.
