Doctor can help: There is no healthy way to lose weight quickly. Extremely low calorie diets don't work, because such diets cannot be continued for long, and the dieters gain their weight right back. A person needing to lose a lot of weight should be evaluated by her doctor to be sure the medical conditions related to her obesity are controlled. Together, they can plan to lose 1-1.5 lbs/wk which is 50-80 lbs/year.

Sedentary: Weight loss is key and aside from diet, the answer is in your question, reversing sedentary lifestyle is critical. Allow time for exercise, running would be ideal for weight loss purposes. Given your age it is likely that you have immediate relatives with diabetes/ insulin resistance.
