I have a bad habit of purposefully biting my tongue and scraping it with my top teeth. could this end up damaging my tongue in some way?

Not too likely: Assuming you are not doing this hard enough to cause actual pain, the main outcome is a whitish callous likely to form over the involved area.

Habit: Any repetitive traumatic habit can cause damage, anything from callous (most likely) to scar tissue to permanent deformation to cancer (least likely). See your Dentist to make sure you have not damaged your tongue. See a mental health professional to help you discontinue your pernicious habit.
