How long does a corpse stay in the hospital before it is moved to the mortuary?

Depends: It depends on how quickly next of kin can be contacted, paperwork can be completed, death certificate signed and if needed, an autopsy completed.

ASAP: The body will be moved to the morgue as soon as possible. Autopsy may be done in the hospital morgue or at the mortuary / funeral home. Paperwork, including death certification, need not delay transfer of the body.
