Foot pain: Sorry to hear. Who has seen him so far? It might be prudent to get him evaluated by a foot doctor, possible imaging and bracing needed.

Hypermobility: Can cause a lot of foot pain. Have him checked for pes planus and consider a digit custom orthotic. Hope he feels better.
