Swelling: Water retention is common among those with kidney issues or other medical issues. Although the calfs/ankles may get "puffy", this may just be your normal body type. Sometimes during pregnancy, you may experience body changes, are there other medical problems you have?

A few possibilities: Venous insufficiency, lymphedema, congestive heart failure or kidney disease are some. If swelling is significantly decreased upon awakening in am, and worsens throughout day, most likely venous insufficiency which is very common. In any case, see you physician for examination and evaluation.
