Depends: It could be a virus like influenza causing his illness or a bacterial infection such as pneumonia. I would have him examined by a doctor immediately though.

Cold or flu: Any fever, postnasal drip, headache or body aches? This is most likely a common cold. The vomiting is slightly unusual. Any cough producing nonwhite sputum? That could raise the possibility of pneumonia if there is fever. See your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen.
