HCG: Pregnyl is a brand name for human chorionic gonadotropin, hcg. Hcg is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy that stimulates hormone production from the ovary that helps support the early pregnancy. It is similar to luteinizing hormone, lh, the hormone that triggers ovulation. Hcg often serves as an ovulation trigger. It is given by injection when a follicle is mature.
