A member asked:

Going to be starting lexapro (escitalopram) & noticed it says do not drink alcohol but i know 5 people on it that still drink alcohol with no bad side effects.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mixing is dangerous: Lexapro combined with alcohol can suppress the respiratory center in the brain. The person will stop breathing and this will cause death. There is no scientifice data showing at what quantities of alcohol and at what dossage of Lexapro can cause this depression of respiratory center . The dose that can kill the people varies from person to person. Xanax (alprazolam) + alcohol can kill the person much faster.
