Kidneys In Diabetes: Albuminuria is present when the urine Albumin creatinine ratio (uacr) is greater than 30 mg/g. This result is borderline. Albumin in the urine is used to follow the kidneys for dysfuntion. Uacr is tested yearly in diabetics and more frequently with changes in clinical conditions or after therapy. If the value has increased since the last test, check with your provider to look for possible causes.

Proteinuria: Your ratio means your urine has protein in it. It is not a quantitative test and it does not tell you how much you have. Have a 24 hour urine collection to see how much proteinuria you have/day. Normal levels of protein are about 100 mg/day. Diabetics have proteinuria and drugs such as ace-inhibitors and angiotensin blockers reduce proteinuria (p). See your doctor about these agents for your p.
