A member asked:

Are potato chips and french fries still considered vegetables? are they bad for you even if they are cooked in "vegetable" oil?

Sort of, REALLY BAD: Technically french fries/chips are vegetables but are also junk food. When people are advised to eat veggies these aren't what's meant & don't count as credit towards servings.French fries/chips are very fattening, usually contain hazardous trans fats & have high levels of carcinogenic acrylamides. Baked potatoes have acrylamides too but less fat.See http://www.Livestrong.Com/article/439966.
