If miscalculated: The placenta begins to break down after 40 weeks and baby is at risk of sudden death if not delivered by 42 weeks or so.You don't get a 48 week baby, you get dates that were off.Miscalculation is not uncommon and due dates are often adjusted today after an ultrasound has verified the developmental size/stage of the fetus.
