Find the cause: Cough can be due to postnasal drainage from allergic rhinitis, best treated with nasal steroid sprays, or may be one of the first signs of asthma, best treated with singulair (montelukast) or an inhaled steroid. The mainstay of allergy treatment is reducing your exposure to the allergen(s) that are causing your symptoms, if you can identify that. Your allergist can be immensely helpful for all of this.

Treatments..: You may need bronchodilator and steroid inhalers to get this probable bronchospasm-induced cough under control. You also should determine what you are allergic to so you can avoid triggers as much as possible. Good luck!
