Doubtful: New-onset allergies in a male in the mid-thirties is not terribly common, although it can occur. Viral infections do last longer these days than they did 20 years ago, but other things can be causing the discomfort with swallowing. If these symptoms aren't going away, you should be evaluated by your physician.
